change is afoot

And no, I am not getting a kitten.

I just couldn't resist a photo of a kitten in a Frye boot!

time to break up with ebay again

Because I really do have an unhealthy attachment. I mean, I already bought two pairs of boots when I was in New York, but for some reason I felt like my new coat still needed something else ...

and what did I find on ebay ...

oh my, perfect Fryes for $50! Well I hope they're perfect; ebay hasn't let me down yet!

shopping in New York

Believe it or not I don't always do a lot of shopping when I visit. And this time I only had one thing I really wanted on my list. Of course that one thing required me to enter a shoe store. This shoe store - Infinity Shoes:

which happens to be the home of Miz Mooz - one of my favourite brands. I really wanted these! The colour is actually much warmer and they are surprisingly comfortable - love!!

Emi loves Anthropologie house stuff even more than I do so we almost always find time to pop in there. And I found this lovely number (Blurred Fresco by Elevenses) marked down from $230 to $99.99!!

I'd been wanting something with more colour in it to combat the dreary winter and I got a cute little hat to go with it. I love it, but wondered what boots shall I wear with this ensemble?

So I went back to Infinity Shoes thinking I might try something on in a nice shade of cherry. They must have known I was coming because they announced BOGO when I walked in the door. Yes, buy one, get one half off, and this is what I got:

A gorgeous pair of Fryes (for less than they are charging online) and then ...

these Miz Mooz beauties were half off for $75!!! It was a good thing I brought my big suitcase!

well hello again ebay

So my friend Sabrina calls me earlier in the week and says "it's time". Time for what? Time for cowboy boots!! She knows of my recent obsession and she knew she'd come to the right place. What did we find for she of the dainty size 5 1/2 feet?

Well she fell in love with these Fryes and wanted them the most. There was a serious bidding war on these babies, but she got them for just under $50 bucks!

And then we saw these little darlings - also Fryes. Our friend Siobhan felt they were a little too similar, but Sabrina loves grey and I think the two are very different. In fact, if these had been in my size I never would have shown them to her.

And guess what? Scored for $9.99 - that's correct, under $10 dollars!

But I was feeling very strongly that as a very fair blond she needed a good summer neutral and these were on sale from $150.00 for $45 "buy it now" - so she did!!

These are actually the same as my red dingo's, which she's tried on so we both knew they'd be super comfy!

I'm so proud of her. And she still has her eye on these red ones!!

I think they would round out the collection just perfectly!!

who am I?

A couple of weeks back there was yet another costume party on the island. I was not given sufficient notice for this thing but I can always just wrassle something up. The fine fellow said "the theme is Hollywood, and hurry on up and get here".

He loves any excuse to dress up as Elvis and I love any excuse to wear these shoes.

The general consensus was that Tim was Trueman Capote.

And apparently I was Farrah Fawcett.
Not gonna complain about that!

I also got Bernadette Peters - who I LOVE!!

There may have been some dancing on the bar.
There is no photographic evidence.

gettin' my cowgirl on

Do I like costume parties? YES, YES, YES !!!

The Island Marina hosted a western party with a costume contest and I thought for sure me and my fellas would win. I mean look at this skirt!

But at least my friend Tim won. I helped him pick out the shirt when we went shopping for his outfit earlier that day in Kensington Market.

And we also found this amazing outfit for Bella - she'd had crinoline envy the last time I wore mine so we had to get her one too!

As a special treat the band were friends of mine - Leon Knight and the Neon Lights. Rob there in the brown shirt was my very first dance partner and we took a little spin on the dance floor for old time's sake when the band took a break.

Craziest thing of the night was when a guy we'd never seen before asked the fine fellow if he could buy the shirt he was wearing with the pink cadillac on the back. He said sure - 200 bucks, and the guy wandered away. And came back with 200 in cash!

things I did for my b-day - part 4

I decided that one of my summer looks should be cute dresses (as always) and cowboy boots. After realizing how expensive these boots can be, ebay helped me out and I won me some serious sexy loveliness.

The first to arrive were the wonderful Frye's ...

that I am enjoying with a little cotton dress from H&M and a soft vintage crinoline.

Then these gorgeous red ones (which were are steal at 30 bucks) arrived last week ...

and they look great with this dress from Damzels and my favourite purple crinoline (they also look darling with the dress in my profile shot).

Then, just as I was giving up hope of getting them before my birthday, the butterfly boots showed up ...

and I am loving wearing them with this dress from Le Chateau which I think I bought in 1996 and gives it a whole new flavour!

Now I need to learn how to two-step!

I'm a winner

I had to fight quite a few other interested parties for these lovlies. I am super stoked to have won them for $43!!

I was really wanting a "carmel" coloured pair to kinda go with my hair and I love butterflies. They really do follow me around. I even had a pet butterfly when I spent the summer in France when I was 16. I would sun myself in the back yard in my frilly little pink bikini and for 3 days in a row the same butterfly would come and perch on my knee for about ten minutes. So I guess these boots were meant for me.

They were previously owned by a girl named Amber from Covington, Georgia. Here's what she has to say about them: "This is a pair of Dingo Leather Cowboy Boots that I bought from our local Horse Town Store. I live the boots but have only worn them maybe about five times and you know how men are, they think that we always have way to many shoes. So the ones that I didn't where that much I am getting rid of. These Boots are in excellent condition with ABSOLUTELY NO SCUFFS. Only the bottoms have the worn look but the picture does it no justice because I literally only wore them about 5 times. I paid $189.00 + tax for these."

I often wonder why people are getting rid of things and I also wonder how many stories people invent on ebay to explain themselves. But I really hope she isn't getting rid of these because a man guilted her into paring down her closet. That just isn't right! Now this dear girl is trying to figure out how to ship to Canada so that I can clap my hands and jump up and down when I get them. I really don't want to have to send them to my sister in LA, because we wear the same size and that could be dangerous!

I also won these Frye's for $60! Did you know that Frye is the oldest shoe company under continuous operation in the United States and that both Union and Confederate soldiers wore their boots in the Civil War? I sure didn't, but I love the shape and the heel on these darlings and I can't wait to wear them with little summer dresses as soon as they arrive from Dallas. I think it's pretty fun that my cowboy boots are both coming from real cowboy country.

Now I'm guessing a cowboy hat might be overkill ...

buttons and boots

I really have got to find some time to get to my sewing projects. Find some time, make some time - what is that? I guess weekends I just love to laze around and be dozy or get outside and enjoy some nature since I don't do much of either during the week.

I did finally get over to the button shop yesteday and picked out some buttons for a couple of jackets that are looking cheaper than they need to with their crappy buttons. I love these kinds of places and can spend hours looking at every little thing, thinking about what to put them on.

But I went on a break from work and I was in a hurry, so I only had time to do the job at hand. Then when I'd picked out my finds and went to pay I realized I had left my wallet in the office - no! So I gotta race back there today.

On my way back, I happened to get lured into a shoe store (can't imagine how that happened) and became quite enamoured by the Frye cowboy boots.

I've been seriously digging this flirty dress with cowboy boots look for a while now. Probably stems from watching all those seasons of Friday Night Lights over the winter and spending far too much time thinking about Tim Riggins ...

(these should not be worn like this but I think they would be hot with a short skirt)

But these Frye boots, they are not cheap. Ebay to the rescue as usual. I guess ebay and I are seeing each other again ...

cause I wanna win me these boots!

Sunday swap

Sunday was a pretty busy day. I had brunch with Anne at Saving Grace but forgot to bring my camera and after that I went to a clothing swap. I'd never been to one before cause usually I give away the good stuff to whomever I think will enjoy it most and then drop the rest off at the Goodwill. But it was perfect timing as I had recently done a big sweep of all ill-fitting and just-not-wearing-it clothes and shoes and I had three big bags of stuff to get rid of. I told myself I wouldn't even look so that I could come home with nothing. Ha - like that was going to happen!

Parasuco jeans that fit like a glove but are not long enough to wear with heels.

Love this blouse which is more purple in real life and a bit sheer.

Little nightgown or dress for over a bikini - it's so soft.

This is probably a dud and I was kinda talked into it. It needs some repairs and it's a bit poufy for me.

But these were the score of the swap!! I took them in yesterday and had them re-heeled and polished, so technically they cost me 20 bucks - but still a total score at that - whoo hooo!
(ahem, please ingnore the crap under the bed)

shoe addict

These were 70% off at Nine West ...

so I bought them with some of my tax return money ... but I wasn't quite sure how to wear them since it's not exactly open toe weather.

Emily from cupcakes and cashmere helped me out ...

I love her style and she knows how to rock the high heeled booties!

So this is what I wore to Connie's party ...

 yes?
